Client Overview

PepsiCo, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that specializes in food, snacks, and beverages. The company operates across all segments of the food and beverage industry, managing the production, distribution, and marketing of its wide range of products.

Challenge

One of PepsiCo’s most successful Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) is the PepsiCo Asian Network (PAN). PAN is dedicated to making PepsiCo the employer of choice for Asian Americans by focusing on the recruitment, retention, and development of Asian associates. It serves as a platform for employees to connect, share, and raise awareness of Asian cultures while fostering skill development, professional growth, and networking opportunities. This dynamic and diverse ERG includes members and employees with heritage from India, China, the Philippines, and other countries in Asia.

PepsiCo’s PAN came to SkillsCamp to find new and more innovative skills training providers to facilitate their biggest event of the year: a full-day leadership program for high-potential Asian employees working at PepsiCo. The goal of this program was to help these employees:

  • Understand unconscious bias and how it informs our daily actions
  • Communicate successfully in a cross-cultural environment
  • Understand the cultural differences between the Western world & Asia
  • Understand how to talk about themselves effectively through a well-defined personal brand
  • Understand strategies for building relationships and networking effectively in the workplace

SkillsCamp Solution

After the initial success of our SkillsCamp program, Navigating The Multicultural Workplace, which combined unconscious bias, cross-cultural communication, personal branding, and networking, SkillsCamp has since been asked to return and expand the scope of our program for 5 subsequent years (2018-present). While the program began as an in-person initiative, it was adapted to online when the pandemic hit in 2020, and for the last 4 years. This online program was so successful that another employee resource group; MOSAIC, asked SkillsCamp to come back again and deliver a similar cross-cultural communications training for them. We also added an extension program for managers who wanted to learn how to support attendees once they have completed the program.

Results

  • 90%+ of attendees believed this program was a worthy investment for their company.
  • 97% of attendees believed they could start applying what they learned right away.
  • 93% of attendees rated the facilitators as “extremely engaging” or “very engaging”.
  • Every year, at least 1 or 2 participants have enjoyed the session so much that they have joined the PAN in a leadership role to work on organizing the next year.
  • Participants have said this program made them feel more “confident” and “empowered” in everyday life.
